Megan is a Registered Drama Therapist who works with individuals, couples, and groups in mental health private practice. Drama therapy combines traditional psychotherapy with creative techniques, helping you express yourself when words are insufficient.
Drama therapy is an active, experiential approach to facilitating change. Megan uses techniques typically used in theatre to achieve therapeutic goals, such as storytelling, improvisation, and role play. During sessions, individuals can mold new behaviors, rehearse new skills, and experience emotional and physical integration and expression. This can be helpful for children and adults alike looking to nurture personal growth. Her approach is guided by current research and best practices in counseling.
One of the most common questions is, "Do I have to be an actor?" Absolutely not. We all play roles in the stories of our lives. Megan uses a person-centered, narrative approach to explore the meaning behind those roles and stories. Each session is tailored to your comfort level, and Megan is trained in more traditional "talk therapy" methods as well.
Megan earned her Master's in Drama Therapy from Kansas State University in 2011. Since then, she has worked in community mental health, schools, and private practice, most recently at Roots to Wings Therapy and Healing Connections Counseling, both in Mount Airy. As a mother of two, she is passionate about supporting maternal mental health. Megan offers a complimentary consultation to answer any questions about her approach or experience.
